ROOT FOR YOURSELF
Dr. Frederick Eikerenkoetter
Be you transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God. Philippians 3:14
A SCIENCE OF LIVING PRINCIPLE
You only get what you give to yourself. You give to yourself by believing in the best for
yourself and of yourself. You give to yourself by believing that you deserve the best, then the best will
come to you from within you.
Quote: “The first person that you need to make a favorable impression on is yourself.“— Rev. Ike
Quote: “People do not lack strength, they lack will.“— Victor Hugo
Quote: “You should be your biggest fan. You should root for yourself.“— Rev. Ike
We wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR, a HAPPY NEW YOU.
Two thousand eight was and exciting year and we hope your journey of self-discovery has been rewarding and fruitful.
Please send us your comments about: what has been the most important lesson you have learned about yourself in 2008.
As always, we encourage you to continue working with the earlier techniques as you add each new one. Do
not forget to access the featured teaching of Dr. Tony Mitchell so that you may incorporate the Mind Science technology he
offers to assist you in working through these lessons. Rev. Ike highly recommends Dr. Mitchell’s techniques.
Our next stop along our Self-Discovery journey with Rev. Ike is his teaching, “Root for Yourself”
found in Chapter 12 of his Science of Living Study Guide. In addition to working with
Chapter 12 of Rev. Ike’s Science of Living Study Guide we would like to offer you a
second message from Rev. Ike entitled, Be Good to Yourself.
Rev. Ike developed and first taught this lesson in August of 1977.
Now, here is the January 2009 message from Rev. Ike.
Be Good to Yourself
Let’ start this New Year off by having you make a few adjustments. Are you unkind to yourself? Are you always
putting yourself down mentally? If you do, people and events will conspire to stomp all over you. Be good to
yourself. Believe in yourself and the world will treat you as you treat yourself. When you respect yourself, others
will respect you as well.
Affirmation #1
My own self-esteem is the only value I have.
What you think about yourself is the only money you possess in the marketplace of Life. If you think you
deserve to experience the goodness in Life, you will draw goodness to you. If you do not think you deserve to experience
the goodness in Life, you will not attract goodness. You will attract unpleasant people and unpleasant situations.
Now here’s how to be good to yourself: Think good thoughts about yourself. What do you think about
yourself? We all ask the question “What do you think about God” or “What do you think about Jesus?”
or “What do you think about Rev. Ike?” But my question is, “What do you think about yourself?”
The only value a person has is his own self-esteem. What he thinks about himself, what he believes about himself, what
he feels about himself. That is the only value that you have. When you go for that job interview, subconsciously the person
that interviews you knows if you are down on yourself. He may not understand it intellectually, but he will feel it
and will not hire you.
In this world, people can put you through many unnecessary changes. However, when you feel right about yourself,
when you believe good things about yourself, people will treat you good. Think good thoughts about yourself. The Bible says,
“As a man thinks, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7) It really means as a man thinks of himself, so is he. If you
think you are no good, you’ll never be any good. I’m reminded of my experience growing up as a little boy in South
Carolina. Growing up as a little black boy in South Carolina I worked in a greasy automobile repair shop, without shoes, sometimes
without a shirt. Occasionally the head mechanic would look down at me and say to me, “Boy, do you think you’ll
ever amount to anything?” I used to think he was trying to put me down, but maybe he saw something good in me that he
was trying to draw out of me. You know, in life it isn’t what’s done to you but how you perceive what is
done to you and how you respond.
Now I could have taken that as an insult. Somehow or another when he said it to me, “Boy, do you think
you’ll ever amount to anything?” it touched something in me, and I would straighten up immediately and square my
shoulders and look him in the face and say, “Yes, sir.” This is what you have to say to life. You have to say
YES to life. You have to say YES to your greater possibilities. Say YES to health; say YES to happiness; say YES to love; say YES
to success; say YES to prosperity; and say YES to money.
As a man thinks of himself, so is he. Jesus said it another way, “According to your faith so be it unto you”
(Matthew 9:29). Your faith is not only what you believe about God as much as it is what you believe about yourself. Every thought, your
beliefs, and your thoughts are in some way a self-concept. According to your faith, so be it unto you. According to your self-image,
so be it unto you. According to your self-esteem, so be it unto you. The reason people don’t go out and be better, do better and have better
is because they don’t believe that they can.
Ephesians 3:20
Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us…
Remember, everything starts with a belief.
How else should you be good to yourself? Be good to yourself by feeling good about yourself
Affirmation #2
I feel good about myself.
Affirmation #3
I have a healthy feeling about myself.
You treat yourself well by feeling good about yourself no matter what is going on around you.
Another way you are to be good to yourself is by knowing that you deserve the best.
Affirmation #4
I deserve the best.
Why should you pass the Cadillac, the Mercedes, or the Honda showrooms and think that these
manufacturers made those cars for somebody else’s enjoyment? Why should you pass Saks Fifth Avenue and
Nordstrom’s and Lord & Taylor’s and just stay on the outside looking-in thinking that those
wonderful clothes are for someone else? Imagine all the wonderful, beautiful cars produced in America,
in Germany, in England, in Japan, and all over the earth; you ought to realize you are the reason
all of those wonderful things exist. If your path crosses fashionable shops sometime today, you ought to look
in the window, say to yourself and say to those things, “All of these wonderful things are being
made for me.” If you want to live in a better neighborhood, in a better house, walk around or ride around
the neighborhood that you would like to live in—without being a nuisance—and say aloud to yourself,
“All of these wonderful things are being made for me.” Know that you deserve the best and say it aloud to
yourself every day, “I deserve the best.” Now some of the things I tell you may seem far out, and
there are some successful people who didn’t have any better sense than to believe me and practice doing what I
told them to do—and now they are living better lives than they ever imagined. You can’t loose with the
stuff I use.
In a meeting in Atlanta, GA I told the people anyone who wanted a new home to do this very thing in
Atlanta. There was a man in the audience that did not have any money for a house; he had been a businessman, in and out
of one kind of failing business to another. When he left that meeting, he took his 14-year old son and went way out into
the suburbs of Atlanta where he saw a house for sale that he wanted. He walked around the house and blessed it saying,
“That is for me.” He and his son walked back out to the front yard and he took the For Sale sign down.
His son looked at him and said, “Daddy, are you going to buy this house?” He replied, “Son, I have already
bought this house.” He had bought it in his mind. That is where everything happens first – in your mind.
If you want something, the first place you get it is IN YOUR MIND.
This was no ordinary house; it was a 17-acre farmhouse, with horse stalls and barns. His son asked him, “Daddy,
can I have a horse?” He answered, “Yes, son, I’ll buy you a horse.” If you don’t understand what
that man was doing, you would think he was talking like a fool. What does the Bible say? “God has taken foolish things to
puzzle the wise” (1 Corinthians 1:27). That’s what puzzles people about my ministry and my philosophy. I teach people
to get things in their minds, because the mind is where everything begins.
That the man was able to get that farmhouse and he started his own limousine service; almost immediately five brand new
Cadillac limousines fell into his lap—just like that. He received several large transportation contracts. After they moved
into the farmhouse, a neighbor from a nearby farm came over to look around and he said, “My God, I see all of these barns and stalls
for horses you have here. You know, I got too many horses over at my place. I need to board them. Can I bring some of them over here?”
The father said, “Oh, yes. Bring those horses right over here.” Remember, what you see in your mind’s eye is what you get
in your life experience. You must see the good you want in your mind. The neighbor brought the horses over and the horses started
having babies.
Believe that you deserve the best. Advance yourself and in advancing yourself, you will advance others. No man ever truly
advanced himself without advancing others.
Affirmation #5
I have a prosperous feeling about myself.
Enrich yourself—no man ever truly enriched himself without enriching others. Henry Ford became a billionaire,
but in becoming a billionaire, he created millions of jobs all over the world. He revolutionized manufacturing; he started the assembly line
concept of manufacturing and all of the related jobs to the automobile industry today.
Do good things for yourself, enjoy yourself. Enjoy yourself free from guilt. Some people have so much religion until they feel that everything enjoyable must be a sin. That is too much religion. After you have worked diligently all week, you must make it your business to find some enjoyable activities to engage in on the weekend. Reward yourself. In fact, you don’t have to wait until the weekend, build into your week certain midweek treats. Take yourself into an expensive store and buy yourself a small package of your favorite candy and say, “Self, you have been so good, I’m going to buy you some candy.” I’m serious about this. Be good to yourself. Go to the cosmetic counter and say, “Self, I’m going to enhance your natural sweetness. I’m going to buy you a cologne.” I dare you to use this stuff and your self will appreciate this esteem. Take yourself out to lunch or dinner to your favorite restaurant. Take yourself out to the theater to see a show. There is no reason to feel guilty about rewarding yourself for a job well done.
And while I am on the subject of guilt, whatever you do, do not hang around these preachers who preach about guilt, hellfire and
damnation. You have had enough of that. It’s not necessary to tell people they’re going to die and go to hell when they are already
living in hell everyday. It is time to tell people how to get out of their personal helluva-fix. After all what did Jesus say? “I
have come that you might have life and that you might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10) When the disciples needed food, He multiplied the
fish and the bread. When they needed money, He pulled money out of the fish’s mouth. Hallelujah!
Encourage yourself. Root for yourself—become your own best cheerleader. Do not leave your house unless you have dressed
yourself in the best you have. Look in the mirror and say, “Self, you look good. Now self, you go on out there and you be good and you
do good and you have good.” And go out everyday to face the world looking good, feeling good and smelling good. Root for yourself. Be your
own cheerleader. When you learn how to cheer yourself on, other people will come along and cheer for you with you.
Last, but certainly not least, learn to forgive yourself for everything—no matter what it is. I cannot tell you how many
psychological and psychosomatic disorders stem from people not forgiving themselves—people trying to live with a load of guilt leads to disastrous
results. Guilt happens to the rich and the so-called poor, to the black and to the white—to people of all races regardless of your bank account.
Please listen to me with your heart, your mind, and your feelings. God, the maker of heaven, of earth, and of all there is, has nothing
against you. However, you have to be sure which God you are serving. Some people are serving that old, angry God taught by Jonathan
Edwards’ God. Jonathan Edwards was the old hellfire and damnation Colonial preacher who used to preach that famous sermon, “Sinners in the
hands of an angry God.” Well, I am not serving that kind of God! He used to preach hellfire and brimstone until the people would run down
the aisles screaming—actually feeling the flames of hell licking up over them. And they would get saved by the thousands as long as they felt that
hellfire. But as soon as that hellfire wore off, their salvation wore off. Some religious people are not saved; they are just scared of hell.
Affirmation #6
I forgive myself because I believe God has nothing against me.
Forgive yourself. Hold nothing against yourself, not even your sins and mistakes. If you made a mistake, don’t try to cover it up,
don’t wallow in it. Acknowledge the mistake, forgive yourself, learn from the experience, and make a better plan to handle the situation the next
time it arises. You simply missed the mark. Here is the true meaning of the word, “sin.” It is translated in the New Testament
from the original Greek word, “Hamatia”, which means to miss the mark. To sin is the miss the mark, to miss the good
that God has for you. To miss the success that God intends for you. To miss the prosperity that God has for you. That’s sin. To miss the money that
God has for you. That’s sin. To miss the goodness of God, that’s sin. It’s a sin to be broke.
However, do not carry guilt. Forgive yourself and God forgives you. Turn from your sin, repent as the Bible says.
Repent means to think again. Instead of thinking poverty, start thinking prosperity. Instead of thinking
sickness, think health. Instead of thinking depressing thoughts—think again—think happiness, think love, think joy.
January 2009 Affirmations
Use the Power of your spoken word to say these Affirmations for yourself at least twice every day throughout this month of January:
I am good to myself.
I cannot expect other people to be better to me than I am to myself.
I believe in myself. I believe in the God-in-me. I believe in God.
Therefore, I believe in myself. I respect myself.
I have faith in myself.
I feel good about myself.
I feel healthy and happy about myself.
I feel successful and prosperous about myself.
I deserve the best. I deserve God’s best because God is my Father.
I advance myself. As I advance myself, I glorify God and I advance others.
My success glorifies God and uplifts everyone around me.
My prosperity glorifies God and uplifts humanity.
I enjoy myself without guilt.
I have a good time. I laugh. I play. I enjoy God. I enjoy myself.
I enjoy life because the joy of the Lord is my strength.
I forgive myself. I wipe my own slate clean.
I wipe my slate clean of every mistake, of every stupid action, of every sin.
I do not wallow in my mistakes. I am not fascinated with sin—mine or anybody else's.
I let it be so. I am free to prosper, to enjoy myself, my family and my friends.
I love and beloved.
Thank you God-in-me.
Now go forth into January knowing and believing as you see yourself with the good that you
desire, it must present itself in your life experience. In Proverbs 10:22 the Scriptures say, “The blessing
of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.” As 2009 begins, rejoice in the things you have created
in 2008 and begin working your new plan to acquire all the good you desire in 2009. There is only one economy and that is
God’s Economy, Thought. Remember, your good comes to you according to your Faith through planning and by taking the corresponding
actions. I believe in you and God believes in you too!

BEING GOOD TO YOU IS THE WAY OF LIFE FOR THE PERSON WHO BELIEVES THE FATHER WHEN HE SAYS, "ALL THAT I HAVE IS YOURS."
WHEN YOU RETURN TO THE FATHER’S ECONOMY, YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU MUST GIVE OF YOURSELF OR YOUR SUBSTANCE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE ALL. ALSO, GOD
GUARANTEES THAT YOU ALWAYS RECEIVES REVELATION OF HIS DEEP THINGS BECAUSE OF YOUR SEED OFFERING.
At this time, I would like to ask you to prepare a I-deserve-the-best offering to this
Ministry if this teaching has blessed you. I want you to use the Power of your spoken
words to say these Affirmations aloud in order to prepare the fertile ground of your
subconscious mind for saying YES to the goodness of God:
I gladly bring my tithes and offerings into God’s storehouse that God may reveal His mysteries to me and bury them
in my heart.
I expect the LORD to give me an idea that will solve a problem for others and they
will pay me for my solution.
I expect the LORD to protect my home and my finances as I honor His Universal Law. My offering opens the door to my
blessings.
Luke 6:38 (AMP)
8Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will they pour into [the pouch formed by] the bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you.
