Chapter 13
SON OF GOD OR 'SON OF A GUN'?*

perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
A SCIENCE OF LIVING PRINCIPLE
Wherever you go, go with thanksgiving in your heart. Go with a smile on your lips and know that you are a child of God.

We hope you are working on your 2009 Plan for Success. Two of the most important things to determine are, “What do I want?”
and, “What am I willing to do in order to have what I want?” Once you figure these out your planning process will begin and
the God-in-you will direct your steps. Write the vision and make it plan so that you can begin
(Habakkuk 2:2)
Create your plan and take a step each day. Planning and consistent action produce desired results. So if you haven’t started your
2009 plan we encourage you to take make time to allow your Imagination to explore the possibilities that can create an exciting 2009 for
you. Your growth takes place as you do what is required to accomplish your goals. Do not be afraid to stretch
yourself by being willing to do something new this year.
Please send us one item from your list of Desired Results in 2009…we would love to share in your excitement.
Question: Have you been able to see the progress you made in 2008 as you added the new techniques each month? If you have,
it would be helpful for you and to other if you would share what you discovered during your journey in 2008. Please use the

assist you in working through these lessons. Rev. Ike highly recommends Dr. Mitchell’s techniques. Our next stop along our Self-Discovery
journey with Rev. Ike is his teaching, “Son of God or a ‘Son of a Gun’?” found in Chapter 13 of his Science of Living
Study Guide. In addition to working with Chapter 13 of Rev. Ike’s Science of Living Study Guide we would like to offer you a second
message from Rev. Ike entitled, How to Get on Your Feet.
Rev. Ike developed and first taught this lesson in September of 1982. Now, here is the February 2009 message from Rev. Ike.
How to Get on Your Feet
My subject this month is, “How to Get On Your Feet.” This statement has an esoteric meaning, an inner meaning.
It is a very common thing to hear people say, “Well you just wait until I get on my feet.” Or “When I get back on my feet,
I’m going to do such and such a thing” or, “When I get on my feet, I’m going to help you.” In esoteric science,
your feet represent understanding because they stand under you. Feet represent an understanding of the laws of life, of the Law
of Mind; feet represent an understanding of the Law of Thought, the mind and its processes. The person who talks about getting on his or her
feet, means, “When I get back in the position of being self-supporting, both physically and financially and otherwise.” In this
study we are dealing with activating your twelve-fold mind power for healing, fulfillment and prosperity. Esoterically we understand the
names of the Disciples of Jesus mean more than simply the names of the men that followed Jesus around when He was here in the flesh; the twelve
Disciples of Jesus represent the twelve powers or the twelve energies or the twelve faculties or twelve functions of every mind, of every man.
I plan to use the text that tells us about the healing of the lame man, or really the lame Mind. In this episode, I want you to see the interplay
among the twelve disciplines or the twelve powers or the twelve energies or the twelve faculties of the mind in the healing process of the lame man,
the lame mind. When the Bible says something, in many case it is not just a literal thing that the Bible is trying to tell you, but it is also trying
to give you a story within a story.
For example, in the Bible, the esoteric meaning of the word man is mind; therefore, a man is
a mind as well as being a person. Every man, every person, is first a mind.
Affirmation #1
Every person is first a mind. I am first a mind.
Now let’s get into the two main compartments of the mind, the conscious mind and the subconscious mind.
In esoteric science, or mind science, the conscious mind demonstrates male characteristics while the subconscious mind
demonstrates female characteristics. Each man, each mind, each person, contains both the male and the female characteristics of the conscious
mind and subconscious mind. My teaching, Feeling Gets the Blessing explains this in detail.
When you understand that you are a mind first, the Scripture, “As a man think, so is he” makes more
sense. You are the products of your thoughts and your thoughts create your life experiences.
Affirmation #2
As a mind thinks, so is he. As a mind thinks, so is she.
I want to begin by giving you the text for my esoteric interpretation and tell you how to get on your feet, how to get on your feet
physically, mentally, emotionally, how to get on your feet financially
Acts 3:1-8
“Now Peter and John want up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour, and a certain man, lame from his
mother’s womb, was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple, which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered
the temple. Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alm and Peter fastening his eyes upon his with John saying,
‘Look on us,’ “and he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter said, ‘Silver and
gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise and walk’, and he took him by the
hand, he took him by the right hand and lifted him up and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength and he leaping up, stood
and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking and leaping and praising God.”
How do you get on your feet? When the literalists reads this Scripture about Peter and John going up together into the temple
at the hour of prayer—being the ninth hour—perhaps the literalists would just simply think, “Oh, that’s
wonderful, those two fellows, Peter and John, went to the beautiful temple at nine o’clock in the morning to pray.”
However, there’s so much more to this text when you have an esoteric understanding, when you have the key. Peter and John
are the names of two of the Disciples of Jesus, the Master man, the Master mind. It is the same Mastermind within you. When
you learn to tap into that Mastermind within you, you become a Master man, a Master person. Each one of the Disciples of Jesus
represents one of your mental energies. My teaching, The Disciple Series, explains this in detail. Peter and
John represent Faith and Love respectively. The Disciple Peter represents your Power of Faith; the Disciple John represents your
inner Power of Love.
Like the word house, esoterically, temple also represents your mind. Peter and John went up together
into the temple. Faith and Love went up together into the mind, during the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour, which represents
the ninth Disciple James, the son of Alphaeus. The Disciple James represents the mental faculty of Divine Order. There must
be an understanding of Divine Order, of Divine Sequence. The Divine Sequence of everything on this earth is first, there is the
thought of a thing, and then that thing manifests.
Affirmation #3
First, there is the thought of a thing and then the thing.
This is an important concept to grasp and to understand. Many people today are sociologically inclined and they’re trying to
cure the ills of society simply by external, sociological means. If just dollars alone could cure poverty, it would probably already
be cured. Do you know that billions of dollars are put into the poverty program out of Washington and other states and counties and
municipalities every year, but it doesn’t cure poverty. Why has money not cured poverty? Because poverty is first in the mind
of the man; a man must heal or cure his mind of poverty first before the condition can be cured. Therefore, Faith and Love must
arise in the mind of a man and he must understand that the order is, thought precedes the thing. The man, the mind, has to understand
that if I am to change my condition, I have to be transformed by the renewing of my mind. You really cannot help anybody until you
help them to change their minds about themselves. You have to change a man’s mind before you can change a man.
If you try to change the man before he changes his mind about himself it won’t work. If you try to change things before
changing your thinking, it will not work. And by the way, prayer correctly understood is a thought-changing process.
Affirmation #4
Prayer is a thought-changing process.
It mentions a lame man. Do you know what the lame man is? The lame man is a lame mind. Whenever there is fear in the mind, the mind is lame.
Affirmation #5
Whenever there is fear in my mind, my mind is lame.
Whenever there is fear in the mind the mind cannot stand, the mind is immobilized. If there is aggravation or irritation in the mind,
the mind is lame. Whatever upsets the mind, whatever disgusts the mind, whatever causes the mind to lose its equilibrium, to lose its
peace, to lose its joy, renders the mind lame. So what we’re really talking about here is not just simply a crippled man sitting
at the gate, we’re talking about the mind. A lame mind that is crippled by fear, by irritation, by aggravation, and by
disgust.
All infirmities, even of the body, take place first in the mind. So here is the lame mind, laying at the beautiful gate outside
of the temple, begging. What does this tell you? As long as you remain in a sense of being outside of the Presence of God, the Presence
of Good, you remain lame. Any mind that does not recognize its indwelling God power is lame. Any mind that believes that its good is
really outside of itself is lame, because out there, that’s where the mind has to beg. And all the mind gets from outside of
its own Divine resources is handouts—only the things others want you have.
Now, as Faith and Love were about to enter the temple, the lame man stretched out his hand, as he had done no doubt thousands and
thousands of times to ask for something. Peter and John said, “Look on us.” This means that the Faith and the Love,
submerged within you, bid you lift up your eyes, behold the power of faith and love to heal you and to strength then you and to meet
all of your needs—even while the mind is lame.
Affirmation #6
I behold the Power of Faith and Love to heal, to strengthen and to supply all of my needs.
Apostle Peter said, “Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have, give I thee, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
rise and walk.” Peter spoke esoterically, not factually about not having any silver and gold. In those days when people joined
the church, they sold everything they had and laid the price at the Apostles’ feet. He was speaking as Faith what he means is that
Faith is not based upon material things or material conditions.
Affirmation #7
Faith is not based upon material things or conditions.
It may be a fact that you are experiencing an illness or a poverty condition, but Faith tells you to look above that. I will lift up mine
eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help (
Psalm 121:1), my help comes from the Lord that made heaven and earth. And even though you may be in a condition that you don’t want
to be in, a condition of sickness of poverty, you can lift up your eyes in Faith and in Love. And so Faith said to the lame man, “Look,
you know, regardless of your material condition, regardless of your material situation, you can rise, give me your hand.” Faith is always
reaching out to take us by the hand and will lift us up.
As you move through this month of February, strive to guard your heart, the subconscious mind, and your conscious
mind against negative, self-defeating thoughts. Gently guide your mind away from entertaining emotions of fear, lack, aggravation, irritation, and disgust.
Allow Faith and Love to lift you to your highest place of the Most High. Take these words with you and allow them to give you Peace and Hope:
Now the Presence and the Power, the love and the joy, the healing and the good health, the courage and the strength, the success and the
prosperity, all of the unlimited good that God is, go with you, above you and beneath you, beside you, around you, behind you, within you and before
you to make smooth, beautiful and perfect your way.
Thank you, Father. Amen.
February 2009 Affirmations
Use the Power of your spoken word to say these Affirmations for yourself at least twice every day throughout this month of February:
I have the same Father as Christ.
I know that God is my Father therefore all the Goodness of God belongs to me.
My belief in myself is the beginning of my success.
I AM a child of the Creator; therefore, I am a creator too!
I am the walking, talking Presence of God on this earth.
My Prayer changes my thoughts.
My thoughts create things in my life experience Thank you God-in-me.
Now go forth into February knowing and believing you are a child of the Creator therefore you deserve all the
Good of your Father. In Luke 15:31 the Scriptures say, “And he [the Father] said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me,

GETTING BACK ON YOUR FEET FOR THE PERSON WHO BELIEVES THE FATHER WHEN HE SAYS, “ALL THAT I HAVE
IS YOURS” MEANS EACH DAY IS THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE THANKS FOR ALL THAT HE OR SHE HAS. AS YOU RETURN TO THE FATHER’S
ECONOMY, YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU MUST GIVE OF YOURSELF AND OF YOUR SUBSTANCE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE ALLTHE FATHER’S GOOD. GOD
GUARANTEES THAT YOU ALWAYS RECEIVE WHEN YOU SOW YOUR SEED OFFERING. EVERYTIME YOU GIVE EXPECT TO RECEIVE.
At this time, we ask you to sow an I-expect-to-receive-NOW offering into this Ministry if this teaching has
helped you realize your identity in God. Always use the Power of your spoken words to say these Affirmations
aloud in order to prepare the fertile ground of your subconscious mind for saying YES to the Goodness of God:
I gladly bring my tithes and offerings into God’s storehouse that God may reveal His mysteries to me and bury
them in my heart.
I expect the LORD to give me an idea that will solve a problem for others and they will pay me for my solution.
I expect the LORD to protect my home and my finances as I honor His Universal Law. My offering opens the door to
my blessings.
Luke 6:38 (AMP)
8Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will they pour into [the pouch formed by] the bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you.
